Spine Interventional Neuroradiology - Hands On Course Middle East

Welcome to the ESNR Spine Full Hands-on Course “Middle East”

My Dear Friends,

Let’s start back again with something new!

As you might know, as Chair for Spine of the European Society of Neuroradiology, I have the pleasure and honor to organize every year not only the ECRS – European Course in Spine Radiology- (next one will take place in Porto, from the 23rd to the 26th of march, 2022). We felt the need for a different meeting, with a different formula, different target and different goals.

That’s why I created in 2019 the new ESNR Spine Full Hands-On Courses, originally planned as a “Europe” version only (we had it just few weeks ago in Italy), and now duplicated with a specific “Middle East” ones. Both the Hands-On courses (“Europe” and “Middle East”) have a different mission than the ECRS, that is showing devices and treatments, using different radiological machines, sharing personal experiences among International Tutors and International Attendees, in a totally true informal atmosphere. The Hands-On is not a “conference” or a “course” in the conventional way: it’s an experience, totally focused on showing spine percutaneous treatments, starting from basic procedures to the most advanced, using Ultrasounds, X-ray, Angio, CT and -why not- even MRI guidance.

When I started the Hands-On adventure, I insisted on having a limited number of participants: this is the only way to satisfy people who come and want to do personally procedures, not waiting in the 5th row of an overcrowd room. That’s why we accept a relatively small number of Attendees only. The “dark side of the moon” is the fact that -in the past- we regretted to put some request in a stand-by list. That’s why I promoted the idea to create a Twin Course, one in Europe and one in the Middle East.

This year is the first “Middle East” version of our ESNR Spine Hands-On: we chose Doha, in Qatar (but several great Countries are ready to host future meetings). Thanks to the exquisite hospitality of prof. A. Own, the Director of Neuroscience Section of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and to the precious help of dr. H. Alqatami, the Responsible for the Neuroradiology section, I’m sure we will replicate the great success the “Europe” course had in Italy this year, just a couple of weeks ago.

The ESNR Spine Full Hands On “Middle East” -see the Program on our ESNR website- will start in March the 18th, with a super quick “Pills of Theory”: just 5 small lectures, held by well-known Specialists, to introduce procedures we will experience immediately after. After this 2 hour section only, we will move to the HMC department of Neuroradiology and…we will start to play! All the Attendees will be subdivided in 3 groups, performing X-ray- and CT-guided procedures from injections to discectomy, from biopsy to radioablation, from basic vertebroplasty to more advanced techniques of augmentation and spacers. All the sessions will be supported by a total of 17 worldwide well-known International Tutors, and all practical activities will be performed on dedicated Spine phantoms.

So, looking forward to seeing you soon in the magic atmosphere of Qatar 2022: I don’t know who will win the next Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar, but I’m sure we all will win the pleasure to stay together, in a marvelous Country, finally in presence.

All my best,

Prof. Luigi Manfrè
