Professor Michael HUCKMAN passed away January 19th, 2021, at the age of 84. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, on August 20, 1936. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Princeton, and after medical school and residency in radiology at Philadelphia General Hospital, he obtained a NIH-sponsored fellowship in neuroradiology under Dr. Juan TAVERAS at Edward Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis.  In 1970 he moved to Rush University in Chicago as Chief of Neuroradiology. He spent his entire career at Rush Univeristy until 2010 when he retired and became Emeritus Professor.

Professor HUCKMAN was a leader in many professional organizations and he continued to be a great mentor for his successors. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, an active member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and served two years as the ASNR President. He was the Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Neuroradiology from 1989-1997.

He was the honorary member of the European Society of Neuroradiology since 2010, as well as the honorary member of several other neuroradiological societies. He served as President of the World Federation of Neuroradiological Societies from 2002 to 2006. In 1998 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Society of Neuroradiology and received the Gold Medal of the Radiological Society of North America in 2002.

For us that know Michael, he was a lovely, honest, elegant, and warm person, a friend, mentor and inspired all of us, in so many ways. We will all miss him, deeply.
