Dear Colleagues,

The ESNR Diagnostic Committee’s Working Group on Epilepsy has the great pleasure to invite you to this first edition of the ESNR Advanced Course on Imaging in Epilepsy.

Neuroimaging studies are central to the diagnosis and management of epilepsy patients. Specialist knowledge is required to adequately plan, protocol and report MR examinations of patients with epilepsy. This expertise is critical to the correct identification of epileptogenic lesions. Imaging in patients with epilepsy is not only restricted to MR but also includes functional imaging studies such as PET or SPECT which can provide important information about the epileptogenic areas. About 40% of epilepsy patients have drug-resistant focal epilepsy and they could benefit of surgical treatment. The main goal of the surgical approach in these patients is to improve the quality of life which means decreasing the frequency of seizures whilst preserving the cognitive functions. Optimised presurgical evaluation using specialised techniques such as fMRI and DTI are the prerequisite to provide the patients with an individually tailored treatment

The course will address the importance of the multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and management of adult and paediatric epilepsy patients and will cover the different aspects of clinical presentation, seizure semiology, EEG, neuropathology, neuropsychology, neuroimaging and neurosurgery.

The program of this first edition is organized over three and half days and comprises a faculty of renowned experts and fabulous speakers in the field. Morning sessions will be dedicated to lectures covering the various themes mentioned above. Afternoon workshops will allow time for discussion with interactive clinical case sessions.

We look forward to welcoming you to Barcelona next June for this course!
