Mechanical thrombectomy has become a recommended therapy in acute stroke patients with large vessel occlusion

With the publications of three additional positive trials on endovascular stroke treatment at the ISC 2015 in Nashville the mechanical thrombectomy has now become a recommended therapy in acute stroke patients with large vessel occlusion.

ESNR together with ESO (European Stroke Organization) and ESMINT (European society on Minimal Invasive Neurological therapy) has prepared a common press release and – what is very important for all neuroradiologists – a Consensus statement on mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke. This consensus statement is not a guideline, but a strong support for the endovascular stroke therapy and new stroke guidelines for stroke diagnosis and treatment are in preparationand are planned to be published very soon.
